Figure Scales
When I first started wargaming in the late 1960's the most popular scale was 25mm, although there was a growing interest in 15mm. Today (2009) 15mm would seem to have overtaken 25mm for use in everyday wargaming, and the choice of scales has grown. There are now manufacturers for everything from 2mm through 6mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 28mm, to 54mm and beyond.
I was never much of a painter and now any skill I may have possessed has been severely curtailed by the effects of Parkinson's. My initial choice of scale will, I believe, be between the 6mm and that of 10mm. They both seem to offer the sort of balance I am seeking between cost and space (both play area and storage) on the one hand and ease of painting and visual impact (when in play) on the other. I am very strongly drawn towards the 6mm scale but wonder if they may be just a tad too small given my lack of manual dexterity; both in terms of being able to paint them and being able to manoeuvre them in play.
I will just have to try them and see. If my painting abilities prove inadequate I may have to enlist the skills of a painting service, but only as a last resort.
